Design Technology

At East Morton CE Primary School, we believe that design and technology helps to prepare learners for the ever changing world and encourages them to become curious and creative problem-solvers, both as individuals and as part of a team. Through our carefully sequenced Design and Technology Curriculum, which is aligned to the National Curriculum, learners combine practical skills with an understanding of the design, making and evaluation of products. Learners are given the opportunity to access a carefully sequenced learning journey which weaves together the necessary knowledge, skills and understanding. Design and Technology helps all learners to become potential innovators and develop their creativity and spirituality, reflecting our vision that every child is valued. We hope to provide learners with a greater awareness and understanding of how everyday products are designed and made and utilise links with the world of business to inspire children into a career linked to DT. At East Morton CE Primary, this is achieved through our yearly Enterprise Week in which each year group designs and creates a product to sell in our whole school market place at the end point of the term. Throughout this week, the children are also visited by a range of people from the world of business, retail and design which allows them to see DT in real life careers. The market place is a fantastic chance for children to showcase what they have made, discuss their developing skills and understanding and experience costing and selling a product as part of a ‘real life’ stall. The marketplace additionally enables us to create links with the school community and parents.

All learners at East Morton CE Primary take part in all aspects of our DT curriculum. Learners are given opportunities to discuss their ideas, progress and evaluations. These discussions are valuable to all learners as it encourages the sharing of thoughts and reasoning, aiding the design process. Where required, lessons and resources are adapted to ensure that all learners are included and can access the whole DT curriculum.

For full details of how DT is taught at East Morton CE Primary, please read our Curriculum Learning Guide:
